Wavio Beta Safety Guidelines

Wavio helps people connect. It does not replace navigation, seamanship, emergency services or personal judgement.

While aboard or underway

Never use Wavio while actively navigating or when it would distract you from operating a vessel safely.
Never rely on Wavio for navigation, collision avoidance, weather, tides, rescue or emergency decisions.
Treat every displayed position, distance, place name and status as potentially inaccurate, delayed or outdated.
Follow maritime law, harbour instructions, local conditions and information from appropriate official sources.
Keep required safety and communication equipment available and use the appropriate emergency channel when necessary.
Never operate a vessel while impaired.

Check in only when you intend to share your location with the selected audience.
Review the audience and duration before confirming.
Check out when you no longer want the check-in available through Wavio.
Do not assume checkout can erase information another person already saw or captured.
Never use a Wavio check-in as proof that someone is safe or as a substitute for a passage or emergency plan.
Do not post another person's location without permission.

A Wavio profile is not identity, competence, licence or vessel-ownership verification.
Prefer public, populated marinas or other appropriate places for a first meeting.
Tell someone you trust where you are going and arrange your own way home.
Protect financial, identity and access information.
Trust your judgement, decline pressure and leave if a situation feels unsafe.

Block a person who makes you uncomfortable and report conduct that violates Wavio's rules.
Wavio reports are not monitored as an emergency channel.
If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services or the appropriate maritime emergency authority.
